Doug, Tracy, Steven

Tracy Nealy of De Queen, Ar. was inducted into the Southwest Arkansas Softball Hall of Fame in Hope at the Watermelon festival Friday night at Kelly Fields. Tracy played from 1980 thru 1992. Tracy and his wife Patti Killian Nealy have 2 daughters J.K. and Nikki. J.K is a Senior at HSU and Nikki will be a freshmen at SAU. Both daughters played high school softball receiving ALL-State honors.

Tracy has been coaching for the past 25 years…in Horatio for 9 years and in De Queen for the remainder.  Tracy has been the only softball coach in De Queen, coaching slow-pitch and fast-pitch.  Nealy had the State Basketball Championship team in 2003, and is currently coaching golf, tennis, and softball in De Queen.

DE QUEEN LEOPARDS FINISH 3RD

De Queen Leopards finished 3rd in the Ralph Gross Invitational this weekend at Nashville. Defeated Horatio 7-3 Thursday night, lost to Nashville Friday night 2-3, and defeated Pulaski Robinson 12-9 on Saturday. Sophomore, Brennan Watkins, and Junior, Dayton Ochoa received a plaque for All-Tournament Honors. 

 

GATORS EARN FIRST CONFERENCE VICTORY

 

The Gators received two outstanding performances on the mound but could only turn one of those performances into their first conference win.

Kirby Atkins Earns Sun Belt Conference Field Performer of the Week

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.—Senior Kirby Atkins earned Sun Belt Conference Field Performer of the Week honors after recording a season-best throw in the discus at 53.98m at the Ole Miss Invitational remaining at the top of the Sun Belt performance list.  Atkins earned his first honor this season and fifth in his career.

The De Queen, Ark. native qualified for his fourth-straight NCAA West Regional in the discus at the Harding Invitational last weekend with a throw of 53.07m.

At the Ole Miss Invitational, Atkins also placed 11th in the hammer with a throw of 51.34m.

DAY SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT WITH SAU

Senior Ashdown High School Lady Panther Shalie Day has signed a letter of intent to play softball for the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders in Magnolia.  Day has also been awarded an academic scholarship to attend SAU. 



A four-year letterman and 2009 winner of the Helen Parker Award, Day plays shortstop for the Ashdown Lady Panthers softball team.  She was named All-State in 2008 and 2009 and All-Conference in 2007, 2008, and 2009.  She was also named to the All-State Tournament Team in 2009 and named twice by the Texarkana Gazette as First Team Infielder in 2008 and 2009.   Day is also an honor graduate in the AHS Class of 2010.

Shalie is the daughter of Jennifer Day and Bradley Day, the granddaughter of Norman and Linda Jester of Ashdown, Claude and Vonda Holloway of Hot Springs, and Jerry and Mary Day and Freida Leathers of Ben Lomond, and the great-granddaughter of Thelma Bell of Ashdown.

De Queen Lady Leopards over Waldron 9-8 in action Friday, April 16th

 

Lady Leopards improve to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in conference. Waldron led the whole game until Nikki Nealy hit a 3 run home run in the bottom of the 7th to tie it. Pitcher Brianna Branson got the win, she came in the 7th to relieve Brandi Smith, who hit a 2 run home run in the 3rd. Lady Leopards win in 9 innings. Waldron dropped to 4-2 in league play.

ERVIN SIGNS LETTER OF INTENT

Jamario Ervin has signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Ranger community college in Ranger, Texas. 

Those attending the signing included:  Step-dad Randy Holloway and mother Doris Holloway, (Center-front) Jamario Ervin, and dad James Ervin, Athletic Director Bob Sikes, Leopard Basketball Coach Jody Cowart, and High School Principal Roger Busse and Grant Dooley.

DE QUEEN LEOPARDS BASEBALL TAKE GATOR CLASSIC TROPHY

De Queen Leopards went undefeated to win the Foreman Gator Classic Tournament this past weekend. The Leopard allowed allowed no runs in the tournament. Sam Willis, Dayton Ochoa, and Brennan Watkins all received All-Tournament honors. Dayton Ochoa was also named MVP of the tournament and received a trophy for the honor.

DE QUEEN HIRES NEW FOOTBALL COACH

In a special called meeting Monday morning, the De Queen School Board hired Sam Goodwin as the new head football coach. Coach Goodwin was a stand-out guard for Henderson State University in the 60’s.

SLUGGERS GO TO WIN MARCH MADNESS

The Sevier County Sluggers (8 & under) scored three runs in their final at bat to edge Ashdown 8-6 to win the March Madness Tournament at Nashville on Saturday. The Sluggers defeated Hope 14-8 and then lost to Ashdown 12-11 in pool play. Earning the #2 seed, Sevier County held off Hope 7-6 before redeeming themselves against Ashdown in the title game.

LEOPARDS TAKE TITLE AT FOREMAN BASEBALL TOURNAMENT


De Queen Leopards went undefeated to win the Foreman Gator Classic Tournament this past weekend. The Leopard allowed allowed no runs in the tournament. They defeated Bradley 10 - 6 to take the trophy. 


Sam Willis, Dayton Ochoa, and Brennan Watkins all received All-Tournament honors. Dayton Ochoa was also named MVP of the tournament and received a trophy for the honor.

Kelsie Emerson, Nikki Nealy and Kirby Hinton received All-Tournament  honors while Kelsie King was name MVP.
