Arkansas Sales Tax Holiday - August 5th & 6th

It's Back to School Time!!!!
The substantial cost to families, this time of year, is why the General Assembly passed Act 757 in 2011. Act 757 provides a sales tax holiday, the first weekend of August. The holiday means state and local taxes are not collected or paid on the purchase of certain items.
This year's
sales tax holiday will begin at
12:01 a.m. on Saturday August 5, 2017, and end at 11:59 p.m. on
Sunday August 6, 2017,allowing shoppers the opportunity to
purchase certain School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School
Instructional Materials, and clothing free of state and local
sales or use tax.
Currently, the
state sales tax is 6.5 percent and city and local sales taxes
vary across the state. The De Queen & Sevier County sales tax
adds 3.375 per cent for a total
of 9.875. All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.

Educators also recommend that parents start putting their child to bed at a regular bedtime and keep a routine for a few weeks before school starts.

Attention parents of children who are already three or four, or are turning three of four by August 1, 2017, Horatio ABC Preschool and Horatio Little Lions are having their early registration for the 2017-18 school year. If you would like to enroll your child in Preschool, please come by the preschool, located at 610 Main Street, west end of the old Horatio Elementary Building, and pick up an application. Please bring your child's Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, Shot Record (If 4 years old, must have 4 year shots), 2016 Tax Return or W-2. Children who will be turning 4 by August 1st will be given placement priority.
