Mr.
Gene E. Leathers, Jr., age 53, a resident of Lockesburg,
Arkansas, died Thursday, December 22, 2016, in Christus
St. Michael Heath System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born May 22,
1963, in De Queen. He was in the National Guard, a
welder and a Baptist. He was an avid hunter, fisherman
and loved his old classic country music.
Mr. Leathers was
preceded in death by his mother, Fredia Joyce Young
Leathers.
He is survived by
his partner, Marie Thomas of Lockesburg; one son, Tripp
Leathers of Lockesburg; two daughters, Bailey Clark of
Lockesburg and Liberty Leathers, Ashdown; his father,
Gene Leathers of Lockesburg; his step daughter, Ashley
Ayers of Horatio; one brother and sister-in-law, Chuck
and Pat Leathers of Lockesburg; two sisters and
brothers-in-law, Tammy and Gene Vanhoose of Eagletown
and Johnye and Patrick Fisher of De Queen; three
grandchildren, Cody Clark and Dominic and Nolan Ayers; a
number of nieces, nephews and host of friends.

24, 2016, in the Wrights Chapel Cemetery with Buster
Dellinger officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson

Mrs.
Evelyn Juanita Bearden, age 71, a resident of
Dierks, Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016
at her home.
She was born April 29, 1945 in Umpire, Arkansas. She
was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist
Church in Dierks.
Mrs. Bearden was preceded in death by her parents,
Robert and Clara Smith Bearden; her husband, Barney
Goss; two brothers, Wayne Bearden and Glenn Bearden;
and a sister, Bobbie Neil Jones.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law,
Michelle and Mitchell Ward of Dierks; one
granddaughter, Alyssa Ward; two grandsons, Tracy
Jones and Matthew Jones; two step grandchildren,
Mitchell Gene Ward and Mark and Julie Ward; four
great grandchildren, Kelly Ward, Ethan Ward, Jacee
Ward and Brenden Ward; and a number of nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bearden will be held at
2:00 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2016 in the Wilkerson
Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Kenny Fant
officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill
Cemetery.

Darrell Chandler
Mr.
James Darrell Chandler, age 66, a resident of Horatio,
Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his home.
He was
born to James B. and Thelma Lawley Chandler in Sentinel,
Oklahoma, on January 6, 1950. He worked for Weyerhaeuser
for a total of 44 years, both at the Treating Plant, and
on the D.& E.T.O.& E Railroad. He was a member of the
First Assembly of God Church in De Queen, where he
served as a deacon, and usher. He enjoyed working cows,
fishing, hunting, but most of all, he cherished the time
spent with family, especially his grandchildren.
He was
preceded in death by his Mother.
He is
survived by his wife of 46 years, Kay Cranford Chandler
of Horatio, two sons, Mike and Sharon Chandler and
Curtis and Tosha chandler all of Horatio, his father and
step-mother, James B. and Ann Chandler of De Queen,
three grandchildren MaKenzie chandler, Orey Chandler and
Logan Chandler all of Horatio, one brother and
sister-in-law, Ronny and Beverly Chandler of Little
River Club, Arkansas, a sister and brother-in-0law,
Linda and Sam Young of De Queen, Arkansas, and a number
of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members.

Ralph Fisk
Mr.
Ralph Monroe Fisk, age 79, a resident of De Queen, died
Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in a Texarkana Hospital. He
was born to David Ralph and Reathie Annalou Cross Fisk,
in Lockesburg, Arkansas, on January 19, 1937. He was a
retired truck driver and was leased to Fikes Truck Line.
He was a Free Holiness and attended Old Time Gospel
Church, and First Assembly of God. He enjoyed gardening,
traveling, yard work, and cherished the time spent with
family. He was an animal lover, especially his dog,
Coco.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings,
Wade Fisk, Lucille Liggon, Nelson Fisk, Elson Fisk, and
Betty Porter, and his wife of 56 years, Margie Morris
Fisk in 2013
He is survived by two sons, Wayne and Diann Fisk of
Little Rock, Arkansas, and Dale and Lisa Fisk of
Lockesburg, one daughter, Wanda and Roy Stover of De
Queen, five grandchildren, Brad Fisk and Tonya Runnels
both of Little Rock, Ashlee Fisk of Lockesburg, Derek
and his wife Tiffany Sullivan of Grannis, Logan Fisk of
Lockesburg, two great-grandchildren, Parker Sullivan and
Mia Sullivan, one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and
Doris Fisk of Dierks, and Maude Burris of Gillham, a
sister-in-law, Patsy Hearn of De Queen, and a

Bea Dolph
Mrs.
Frances Bernice "Bea" Wolf McLarty Dolph, age 92, a
resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Monday, December
19, 2016 in De Queen.
She was
born to Benjamin Lewis and Edith "Mackie" Clark Wolf in
Blossom, Texas, on April 11, 1024. She worked as a
carpenter and in the restaurant industry. She was a
member of the De Queen Church of Christ, and enjoyed
camping, fishing and traveling, but most of all, she
cherished the time spent with family. She was an amazing
quilter, which she shared with all of her family.
She was
preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Houston
Wolf and Preston Wolf, a son-in-law, Jerry Jones and her
husband, Page Dolph.
She is
survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and
Lyde Williams of De Queen, and Janice Jones of Atlanta,
Texas, Betty and Randy McCain of Shreveport, Louisiana,
and Martee Guess of Bossier City, Louisiana, seven
grandchildren, Teresa and her husband, Rodger Neeley of
De Queen, Chrystie and her husband Brian Walthour of De
Queen, Tracy and his wife, Jenna Jones of Haughton,
Louisiana, Patricia Jones of Wyoming, Lindsey Molloy,
Erin Fegley of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Jennifer
McCain of Washington State, 12 great-grandchildren, and
12 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by
two sisters, Ethel Waldon of de Queen and Kathryn Gentry
of Wickes, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr.
Franklin Lawrence Irvan, age 67, a resident of
Horatio, Arkansas, died Monday, December 19, 2016 at
his home.
He was born to Henry Stewart and Jennie Mae Bishop
Irvan in De Queen, Arkansas, on November 3, 1949. He
was an employee of Kenco Plastics, Inc, where he was
a supervisor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, was an
avid Razorback Fan, and a Democrat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son,
Franklin David Irvan, and a brother, C. L. Irvan.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Jeanette Irvan of
Horatio, four daughters and sons-in-law, Misty
Laverne and Francis Bruce Westebee of Franklin,
Tennessee, Coty Maria and Kevin Lane Langlois of De
Queen, Hillarie Lynn Irvan of Howe, Oklahoma, and

Glen Harold Cannon, age 77, a resident of Lockesburg,
Arkansas, died Sunday, December 18, 2016, in De Queen.
He was
born February 5, 1939 in De Queen. He was a truck
driver, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Old
Union Missionary Baptist Church in Lockesburg.

Cannon was preceded in death by his parents, Perry and
Dora Lee Snow Cannon; one Son, Perry Don Cannon; one
daughter, Kimberly Cannon; one sister, Perrylene Sneed
and one grandson, Joshua Cannon.
He is
survived by his wife, Joyce Long Cannon of Lockesburg;
two daughters, Becky Liggin of Lockesburg and Debbie
Mullins of Atlanta, Georgia; three sons, Harold Cannon
of Antlers, Oklahoma, Ricky Cannon of De Queen and Chris

Paula Kay Morris
Mrs.
Paula Kay Morris, age 44, a resident of Horatio,
Arkansas, died Sunday, December 18, 2016, at her home.
She was born to Ron and Phyllis Ellsworth Mills in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on June 29, 1972. She was a
LPN, and worked for the Health Department, 7 years in
Postal Service, 16 years at Poulan as well as a rancher.
She was a member of the Horatio Church of Christ, and a
First Responder for Central Fire Department. She enjoyed
farming, raising cattle, especially orphan calves,
helping children with show animals. Most of all, she
cherished the time spent with family.
She is survived by her husband, Charles R. Morris of
Horatio, two daughters, Kristen and her husband, Tyler
Cribb of Horatio, Arkansas, and Autumn Tayler Pickett of
Horatio, a step-daughter, Natasha and her husband Ned
McCoy of Gillham, a step-son, James Tel Pickett of
Springdale, Arkansas, her parents, Ron and Phyllis Mills
of De Queen, two grandchildren, Keegan McCoy and
Alexander McCoy both of Gillham, a brother and
sister-in-law, Keith and Shawndel Mills of Piedmont,

Mrs.
Arlene Ladell Overturf Whitley, age 73, a resident of De
Queen, died Saturday, December 17, 2016. She was born to
Lester and Goldie Ward Overturf in Mineral, Arkansas, on
January 15, 1943. She was retired as an insurance
adjuster, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed
Decorating, collecting antiques, sewing, crocheting, and
needle work. Most of all, she cherished the time spent
with family, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her
siblings, Helen Sue Davis, and Sterling Overturf.
She is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, Tim
Whitley of De Queen, two sons and daughters-in-law,

preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Birdie

Jerry Lee Harold
Mr.
Jerry Lee Harold, age 77, a resident of Gillham,
Arkansas, joined the Lord on Thursday, December 15,
2016.
He was born to Dortha Slankard Harold and Kenneth Harold
in Tucson, Arizona on January 6, 1939. He was an active
member in the Gillham Methodist Church. He was also a
member of the Silver Hill Mason Lodge in Gillham. He was
in the Army Reserves as a tank commander for eight
years. He raced modified cars in Tucson and winged cars
in San Jose, California. He was the chief surveyor for
the San Thomas Express Way and 101 Bypass in San Jose
for nine years. He moved to Cove, Arkansas where he
farmed cows and chickens for twenty years. He became the
Gillham Lake water manager for twenty years. He was a
beloved husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather.
Mr. Harold was preceded in death by his parents; one
son, Michael Lee Harold, Sr.; one granddaughter, Robin
Harold; and one brother and sister-in-law, Terry and
Donna Harold.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gerrie May
Turner Harold; one daughter, Terrie Harold of Hot
Springs, Arkansas; one daughter-in-law, Janice Page
Harold; four grandchildren, Michael and Cynthia Harold,
Jr., Stephen and Erica Harold, Jessica and Jason Hibbs,
and Jerry Trammell; nine great grandchildren; one great
great grandchild; and a large number of nieces and
nephews.

Gilbert Gailon Godwin
Mr.
Gilbert Gailon Godwin, age 69, a resident of De Queen,
Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in the Baptist
Health Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.
He was born to
Walter and Ella French Godwin in De Queen, Arkansas on
January 20, 1947. Gailon was a veteran of the Vietnam
War, having served with the U. S. Army. He was a retired
engineer for the D&E.T.O.&E Railroad, and was an active
member of the Kern Heights Baptist Church. He was a
Sevier County Library Board Member, a board member and
president of the Mt. Ida Cemetery Board, and a Gideon.
He enjoyed yard work, gardening, hunting, and carpentry
projects.
He was preceded in
death by his parents, a brother, Ronnie Godwin, and a
sister, Sybil Staggs.
He is survived by
his wife, Jamie Key Godwin of De Queen, a son, Kory
Godwin of De Queen, two daughters, Carmen Johnson of
Ashdown, and Candy Springer of Wake Village, Texas,
three sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy and Jay L.

Union Church, former employee of Baker’s Store and a
homemaker.

in death by her parents, Raymond Rollo and Mattie Ethel
West Smith; her husband, Nolen Proctor; one daughter,
Brenda Gail Baker; brothers and sister, Delton, Lucille,

Mrs.
Barbra Ann Power Neal Johnson, age 77, a resident of
Dierks, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 10, 2016, at
the home of her sister in De Queen, Arkansas.
She was born to Hayden Cortez and Jewel Atrell Teague
Power in Calico Rock, Arkansas, on July 15, 1939. She
was retired from the medical field, where she worked as
a clerical accountant, as well as a homemaker. She was a
member of the Antioch Baptist Church of Nashville,
Arkansas, and enjoyed crafts, sewing, fishing, and
cherished the time spent with family, especially her
grandchildren. She was an animal lover, especially her
dog, Teddy Bear.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother,
Jesse Power.
She is survived by the love of her life, Doyle Neal of
Dierks, a son, Bobby and Vicky Neal of Dierks, a
daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lea and Randy Childress
of Little Rock, Arkansas, five grandchildren, Crystal
Neal, Timothy and his wife, Jennifer Neal, Victor Neal,

She was born November 19, 1934, in Arkinda,
Arkansas. She was retired from Macy’s and was a
Baptist. Mrs. Holley had a green thumb, loved to
garden and was an avid domino player.
Mrs. Holley was preceded in death by her parents,
Roy Clarence and Rilla LeFevers West; her husband,
Rueben Lamar Holley and one daughter, Patricia Hail.
She is survived by one sister, Ruth West Murray; two
daughters and a son-in-law, Cindy Anderson of
Arlington, Texas, and Gail and Gary Wicks of
Mansfield, Texas; two grandsons, Erik McCullough and

Junior F. Bailey, age 73, a resident of Horatio,
Arkansas, died Sunday, December 4, 2016, in Lockesburg,
Arkansas.
Mr. Bailey was born June 7, 1943, in De Queen, Arkansas.
He was retired from Pilgrim’s Pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Bertha
Ayers Bailey.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Frances Rightmire
Bailey; five sons, Lonnie Bailey of Horatio, Johnny
Bailey of De Queen, Danny Bailey of Lockesburg, Billy
Bailey and Steven Bailey of De Queen; sixteen
grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a number
of nieces and nephews.

Mrs.
Anita Gail Crews Schaefer Pyle, age 67, a resident of El
Reno, Oklahoma, and former resident of Horatio, died
Wednesday, November 30th in an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
hospital.
She was born to Gleason
Wilson and Audrey Lois Nix Crews in Arkansas, on June 3,
1949. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene,
and was a retired secretary, as well as a homemaker. She
enjoyed crocheting, and spending time with family and
friends.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, and her husband, Hubert Pyle.
She is survived by a son,
Wesley Wayne Schaefer of San Marcus, Texas, three
granddaughters, Brittney Schaefer of Nacogdoches, Texas,
Lauryn Schaefer, and Kayla Marie Schaefer both of
Houston, Texas, a brother and sister-in-law, Rick and
Gail Crews of San Marcus, Texas, and a number of other
family members.

Faye Kesterson Chandler, age 67, a resident of Dierks,
Arkansas, died Friday, November 25, 2016 in Nashville,
Arkansas after a courageous battle with ALS.
She was born April 26,
1949, in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a retired cafeteria
worker at JoAnn Walters Elementary School for 37 years
and a member of the Westside Church of Christ.
Mrs. Chandler was preceded
in death by her parents, Johnson and Hester Mounts
Kesterson and one brother, James Kesterson.
She is survived by her
husband of 46 years, Donald Chandler; one daughter and
son-in-law, Melissa and John Colbey of Dierks; three
grandchildren, Cody and Kera Colbey, Colten Colbey and
Cylie Colbey; one brother, Glenville Kesterson of
Lockesburg, Arkansas and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs.
Chandler will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27,
2016, at Westside Church of Christ with Robert Peek and
Jerry Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the

Mr. Roy Lynn Forrest, Sr.
Mr.
Roy Lynn Forrest, Sr., age 59, a resident of Winthrop,
Arkansas, died Friday, November 25, 2016 in Little River
County.
He was born July 19, 1957,
in De Queen. He was a logger, a member of the Winthrop
Baptist Church and an avid hunter.
Mr. Forrest was preceded
in death by his mother, Bessie Marie Johnson Forrest;
his father, Custer Lee Forrest; four brothers, Richard,
Bobby, Jimmy and Sammy Forrest and four sisters, Nell
Bean, Nancy Lambert, Susie Keeton and Linda Wilcox.
He is survived by his
wife, Johnnie Lou Mears Forrest; one daughter, Glenda
Denise Forrest; one son and daughter-in-law, Roy Lynn
Forrest, Jr. and Monica Elane Forrest; four
grandchildren, Autumn Kay Hofmann, Abbey Kayt Hofmann,
Kylie Layne Forrest and Aiden Kristopher Forrest; two
brothers, Steve Forrest and Donald Forrest;, special
nephew, Richard Lee Forrest, special great-nephew,
Matthew Forrest Lee and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs.
Betty Dean Sanders Heath, age 86, a resident of Foreman,
Arkansas, died Saturday, November 26, 2016, in Ashdown,
Arkansas.
She was born August 8,
1930, in Foreman, Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a
member of Lighthouse Ministries in Forrest City,
Arkansas. She enjoyed hunting, reading, cooking and
working with her husband.
Mrs. Heath was preceded in
death by her husband, James Heath; one daughter,
Patricia Maynard; her father, Walter Sanders; her
mother, Dovie Sharp Sanders; one grandson, Dennis Heath
and one granddaughter, Gloria Heath.
She is survived by three
sons and two daughters-in-law, Gayle Heath of Forrest
City, Arkansas, Buddy and Lucy Heath of Foreman,
Arkansas and Mitch and Sue Heath of Hooks, Texas; three

Mr. Joseph Fuller
Mr.
Joseph Fuller, age 80, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas,
died Friday, November 25, 2016 at his home.
He was born to Ernest F. and Clara Wolberton Fuller in
Flint, Michigan, on February 18, 1936. He was a veteran
of the Korean Conflict, serving with the U. S. Navy. He
was a retired
aviation and auto mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three
brothers, Ernest, Frank, and Rex Fuller all of Michigan.
He is survived by a brother, Herb Fuller, two sisters,
Dorothy and Frances all of Michigan. He is also survived
by his favorite niece, Lucy Carrier of Michigan.
Locally, he leaves behind his lifetime friend and
"adopted” niece, Donna Moore Skinner of Fort Smith,
Arkansas, and his special angel-caregiver and friend,
Myra Higgins Buchanan of Gillham, Arkansas. Jerry Foster
and Judy of De Queen and Forrest Tugman of Gillham were
also great friends to him and lovingly helpful during
his long illness. He came to love the wonderful team
provided to him by Quachita Regional Hospice and they
became a big part of his extended family during the last
two years. In appreciation, we also list in his
survivors those special angels, Sunni Tollett of
Lockesburg, Phyllis Walker, Jocelyn Laxamana, and Sadie
Whorton, all of Mena.

She was born June 14, 1940, in Yuma, Arizona. She was a
member of the Horatio Church of Christ a homemaker and
rancher.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, George
and Mildred Reese; one brother, George Reese, Jr. and
her in-laws, Roland and Muriel Smith, Gene Cobb and
Carlos Joe Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Scotty
Smith; three children, Michael Roland Smith, Terry and

and Buddy and (Bobbi) Reese; her in-laws, Ken and Betty

Mr.
Richard Lee Hill, age 61, a resident of De Queen,
Arkansas, died Monday, November 21, 2016 in the De Queen
Medical Center.
He was born to R. C. and Dixie Ray Waldon Hill in De
Queen, Arkansas, on September 3, 1955. He was self
employed in grounds and landscaping. He attended Lewis
Temple Church of God in Christ, and enjoyed fishing and
motorcycles.
He was preceded in death by his father, his
grandparents, Savannah and B. J. Waldon, and Lina Moore,
three infant siblings, and a nephew, Mark King.
He is survived by his mother, Dixie Hill of De Queen, a
son, Dustin Hill of De Queen, a daughter, Teresa Jordan
of De Queen three grandchildren, Maurice Moore, Dominick
Moore, Vanity Jordan all of De Queen, two
great-grandchildren, Jairo Paredes and Angeliah Paredes

Odis Allan Bush
Odis
Allan Bush, age 82, passed away on Sunday, November 20,
2016. Odis, the youngest child of the late Richard and
Pearl Bush, was born February 6, 1934, in Sedan, New
Mexico. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Odis is survived by his
wife, Nancy Marilyn Bush and daughter Mary Lynnette
Jones (Gale Smith) of HSV, sons Allan Bush (Martha) of
De Queen, and Erwin Bush (Vicki) of Barling,
grandchildren Jason Bush (Bekki) of De Queen, Ryan Bush
(Tiffany) of Barling, Lanye Bush of Fayetteville, Tory
Bush of Van Buren, Jennifer Burroughs of Jacksonville
and Ethan Brocato of Hot Springs, Kim Cole of HSV and
Tim Smith of Little Rock. He was predeceased by a
daughter, Deborah Brocato and son-in-law Vince, and five
brothers and two sisters. Odis is also survived by
twelve great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews,
and a host of buddies and good friends.
Odis was a retired truck
driver, fleet owner and farmer. He loved his gardening,
working in the yard, maintaining the home place, deer
hunting and visiting with family and friends. He never
met a stranger and was always quick with the jokes. He
was a kind and gentle man with family, friends, and
strangers.

Lynn Burcham, age 57, a resident of Lockesburg,
Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016 in Christus
St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
She was born November 28, 1958 in Dallas, Texas. She was
a Librarian for Howard County Public Library, was a
member of the Pleasant Hill Church and a U.S. Airforce
veteran and U.S. Airforce reserve. Cheryl was a talented
person; she enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting and her
dogs. She was involved with summer reading programs that
worked with children.
Mrs. Burcham was preceded in death by her parents, Paul
S. Davignon, Sr. and Betty J. White Davignon; one
brother, Michael Wayne.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Denise
and Jason Trezza of Wichita Falls, Texas; one son and
daughter-in-law, Ricky and Kayse Norris of Ward,

Mr. Carlos Joe Smith
Mr.
Carlos Joe Smith, age 63, passed away at Wadley Regional
Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas. Mr. Smith was born
in Ashdown, Arkansas, on January 27, 1953, to Rufus
Roland Smith and Catie Lee Muriel Scott Smith.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, and an
older brother, Michael Smith.
Surviving Mr. Smith are: his wife, Leeann Hames Smith;
two daughters and sons-in-law: Starla and Mark Morgan of
Bentonville, Arkansas; and Melissa Smith-Grantham and
Joseph Grantham of Conway, Arkansas; seven
grandchildren: Austin, Colton, Brooklyn, Nora, Ledger,
and Lyric Morgan; and Koen Grantham; two brothers and
sisters-in-law: Scotty and Sandy Smith, and Kenny and
Betty Smith of Winthrop, Arkansas; five nieces and
nephews: Michael Roland Smith, Terry Smith, Ginger Smith
Young, Jay Smith, and Brooks Smith.
Mr. Smith was a farmer, supervisor at Cadence
Environmental Industries, former off shore welder in
Grand Isle, Louisiana, middle school teacher at New
Boston Middle School, high school teacher at Saratoga
High School, and college professor at the Cossatot
Community College of the University of Arkansas. He
loved The Lord, his family, friends, fishing, and he
lived every day to be productive at making and
accomplishing something. His grandchildren were a joy in
his life and he cherished spending time with them and
encouraging their mischievous ways, often to the dismay
of their mothers. Mr. Smith was a member of the First
Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads and when he did
not attend church, he listened to God’s word from First
Baptist Church of Texarkana at Moore’s Lane.
Constantly creating things, Mr. Smith loved crafting
knives, flashlights and other necessities out of spare
pieces of material. When repairing a piece of machinery,
Mr. Smith was renown for mending the broken equipment
better than new. Mr. Smith was also well known for the
exhilarating way he could recount a story involving his
friends or relatives.
A celebration of the life of Mr. Smith will be held at
the First Southern Baptist Church of Crossroads in
Winthrop, Arkansas, on November 19, 2016, at 10:00 AM
with the Reverend Audie Dawson officiating.

John Alvin Tomblin, age 68, a resident of Burg,
Arkansas, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 in Christus
St. Michael Health System in Texarkana, Texas.
He was born May 29, 1948 in Fairfax, Oklahoma. He was a
supervisor for Weyerhaeuser for 36 years, a member of
the Burg Church of Christ and a member of the Umpire
Volunteer Fire Department for 36 years.
Mr. Tomblin was preceded in death by his parents, Robert
“Bob” and Mildred “Millie” Poston Tomblin.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy White Tomblin; two
sons, Shawn Tomblin and Veronica Moore and Matt and

Community Church in Horatio and a U.S. Navy Veteran.

He is survived by his

Kenneth Wayne Carroll
Kenneth
W. Carroll, 83, of Sherwood, passed away on November 13,
2016. He was born June 26, 1933 in DeQueen, Arkansas to
John Henry and Edith Carroll.
Kenneth retired from the
United States Army after many years of service. His
military service included tours in Germany, Panama,
Honduras and several stateside locations.
He is survived by his son
Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Kenneth Wayne Carroll, Jr.

Fred Grover Baker, age 75, a resident of Wickes,
Arkansas, died Thursday, November 10, 2016, in De Queen
Medical Center.
He was born January 13, 1941, in Haworth, Oklahoma to
Ben and Ruby Baker. He was a carpenter, mechanic, and
construction supervisor. He was also an active member of
the First Baptist Church in Wickes.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents; first
wife; three brothers; and one great-grandson.
He is survived by his wife, Sara Baker; 2 sons and
daughters-in-law, Keith and JoAnn Baker of Grannis,
Arkansas and Danny and Jenna Webb of Hurst, Texas; two
daughters, Carla Hahn and Fredia Baker both of
Texarkana, Texas; ten grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle,
Justin, Amanda, Derek, Ashley, Kimberly, Megan, Aaron
and Grayson; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers
and a sister-in-law, Randall Baker of Vandervoort,

Betty
Joyce Frady, age 82, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas,
died Thursday, November 10, 2016 in De Queen Therapy and
Living Center.
She was born January 11, 1934 in King, Arkansas. She was
the first female U.S. Postal Clerk at the De Queen Post
Office, and was a telephone operator for De Queen
Telephone Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie James
and Nellie Monroe Walker; her first husband, Joy Dee
Pickett; her second husband, Mack Frady; a brother,
Rudolph Walker; and a sister, Jewel Walker.
She is survived by three sons, Randy Pickett of
Lockesburg, Arkansas, Mikel Frady of De Queen, Arkansas,
and Terry Frady of Winthrop, Arkansas; four daughters,
Sonya Harris of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Cheri Ayers of
Horatio, Lynnette Boyd of Winthrop, and Pam Stewart of
De Queen; three sisters, Ivanell Wilson, Lajuan
Chandler, and Mary Jo Dillard; 20 grandchildren, 41
great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Linda Faye Flower Uhlfelder, age 70, a resident of De
Queen, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 8, 2016, at
the home of her son in Horatio.
She was born on November 7, 1946 in Midwest City,
Oklahoma. She was retired from De Queen Medical Center,
where she was an anesthetist, as well as a homemaker.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, painting, gardening, and
cherished the time spent with family, especially her
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eulan Carl and
Lula Marie Rard Flowers, and a brother, Carl Lee
Flowers.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law,
Charles Eugene and Rhoda Brown of Shawnee, Oklahoma,
Clifton Edward and Kisandra Brown of Horatio, Arkansas,

Juan Carlos Bolanos Lopez,
age 22, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Monday,
November 7, 2016 near Eagletown, Oklahoma.
He was born February 3,

at Tyson Foods in Broken Bow, Oklahoma and a member of
the St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in De Queen.

Ruth Jones Carden, age 88, a resident of Haworth,
Oklahoma, and former resident of Foreman, Arkansas, died
Thursday, November 3, 2016 at her home.
She was born to Tommy and Elizabeth Fleet Jones in
Memphis, Tennessee, on August 17, 1928. She was retired
owner of Ms. Ruth’s Flowers, and was active in the
Foster Grandparent Program in the Winthrop and Foreman
Schools. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist
Church of Crossroads, Arkansas, and enjoyed traveling,
flower arrangements, cooking, and cherished the time
spent with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Samuel E. Carden, a son, David Carden, a daughter,
Martha Grooms, a grandchild, Lori, and her siblings,
Frances Paluman, and Jewel Jones.

driver, and enjoyed fishing, carpentry, and handyman
work.

Alva A. DeMarais
Alva A. DeMarais, 90, of
Bella Vista, AR died October 23, 2016. She was born
February 16, 1926 in Gillham, AR to Samuel H. and
Claudia Byers Capps.
Mrs. DeMarais was a
graduate of East Texas State University (now Texas A &
M), Texarkana, TX. She worked many years in government
and related jobs, retiring from her professional life at
the age of 72 years. Her government service in
Washington D.C. was recognized with several
congressional awards. Her personal hobbies have included
bridge playing, quilting, and gardening.
Survivors include her
husband, Robert P. DeMarais of Bella Vista; one son,
Benjamin W. Williams and his wife Trude, of California;
one grandson, Mark Williams and wife Diana; two
granddaughters, Heather King and husband Andrew; and
Stephanie Sanchez, all of California and five
great-grandchildren. Her immediate family survivors also
include one brother, Jimmy Capps and wife Margaret of
Arkansas and her sister Dorothy Phillips, of Texas.

Mrs.
Juanita June “Nita” Trice James, age 73, a resident of
Elk Grove, California, and former resident of De Queen,
died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at her home.
Nita was born in San Francisco, California on May 28,
1943, to Andrew Trice. She and her siblings were
partially reared by her aunt and uncle, Vera and Dave
Trice. She graduated from Sacramento High School, and
earned her RN Degree from Sacramento City College in
1972. She married Bill James of Wickes, Arkansas in
1963. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was
an avid reader and cherished the time spent with family,
especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill James in
2014, and her aunt and uncle.
She is survived by a son, Dean James of Lamar, Colorado,
a daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Phillip Crumback of
Elk Grove, California, two sisters, Cathy Trice of San
Diego, California, and Liz Trice of Elk Grove,
California, five grandchildren, Rachel and her husband,

Effie Mae Milam Klitz, age 79, a resident of Winthrop,
Arkansas died Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Ashdown,
Arkansas.
She was born October 28, 1936 at Billingsley Corner in
Little River County. She was a homemaker and a
Christian.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and
Sarah Elizabeth Baker Milam; her husband, Kenneth Ray
Klitz; a daughter, Deborah Vaughn; four brothers,
Charles, Darrell, Marvin and Steve Milam; and a sister,
Velva McCormick.
She is survived by two sons, Ronald Klitz and Joel David
Klitz, both of Winthrop; one daughter and son-in-law,
Rachel and Marc Aldaz of San Antonio, Texas; three
sisters, Louise Key of Mena, Arkansas, Mary Jackson of
Haworth, Oklahoma and Shirley McCorkle of Texarkana,
Arkansas; four brothers, John Milam of Foreman,
Arkansas, Bill Milam of Cerro Gordo, Arkansas, Gary
Milam of Rogers, Arkansas and Wilbur Milam of Horatio,
Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Scott Lord, Amanda

Mr.
Daniel Eugene “Dan” Alspaw, age 67, a resident of
Ashdown, Arkansas, died Thursday, October, 20, 2016 in
Little River Memorial Hospital.
He was born to Ernest Edwin and Mary Ella Clayton Alspaw
in Bakersfield, California, on October 27, 1948. He was
self employed with Alspaw Properties, and enjoyed
fishing, and being outside. He also had a passion for
“Buy, sale, or trade”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter,
DeeDee Alspaw, and his siblings, Ernest Delmar Alspaw,
Doris Loften, Doretha Tull, Annie Belle Strawn, and John
Dale Alspaw.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Marlene
Bow Alspaw of Ashdown, two sons and daughters-in-law,
Duane and Stacey Alspaw and Duke and Susan Alspaw both
of De Queen, a daughter, Dannette Alspaw of De Queen,
six grandchildren, Dextin and his wife, Whitney Wheeler
of Dierks, Deven Alspaw of De Queen, Dara Cowling of

Agustin Jaramillo, age 50, a resident of De Queen, died
Tuesday, October 18, 2016, in Christus St. Michael
Hospital.
He was born to Tomas
Saucedo and Maria Ascencion Jaramillo in Monterrey,
Nuevo Leon, Mexico on July 17, 1966. He was an employee
of Pilgrim’s, and was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic
Church. He was an avid fan of Soccer-Tigres UANL Soccer
Club, and was a devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death
by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Martha
Sanchez of De Queen, a son, Carlos Jaramillo, and a
daughter, Martha Jaramillo both of De Queen, two
brothers, Julio Alberto Saucedo and Juan Jose Saucedo
both of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, three sisters and
two brothers-in-law, Maria de la Luz Hernandez and Jose
Garcia of Monterrey Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Vicky Jaramillo
of De Queen, and Clara Maria Saucedo and Carlos

Sonia
Enriquez Perez, age 34, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas,
died Wednesday, October 12, 2016 near Wickes.
She was born on Monday, August 30, 1982, in Juarez,
Chihuahua, Mexico to Javier Jose Enriquez and Delia
Machado. Sonia loved life and enjoyed spending time with
her children who were her greatest accomplishments in
life. She enjoyed Cumbia dancing and listening to all
different kinds of music, from hip hop to mariachi
bands. She enjoyed cooking, some of her family’s
favorite dishes included enchiladas and rice. Sonia was
a loving mother and friend and will be missed by all who
knew her.
Sonia was preceded in death by two sons, Damian Enriquez
and Raul Ambriz.
She is survived by her boyfriend, Jacinto Decasez of
Wickes; four sons, Misael Enriquez of DeQueen, Arkansas,

She was born May 10, 1943,
in Maryville, Missouri. She was a retired CNA and loved
being with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Reitenbaugh was

Phyllis Rae Kleber Shill and one son, John Schuetz.

Laura Ann Kesterson Davis, age 45, a resident of Dierks,
Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Thursday, October 13,
2016, at her home.
She was born April 24, 1971, in De Queen, Arkansas to
Johnny and Pat Cogburn Kesterson. She was a 1989
graduate of Dierks High School. She received her LPN
degree from Cossatot in De Queen in 1998. She worked as
a nurse for Dr.Gullett in Dierks and Dr. Buffington in
De Queen. She attended the First Assembly of God Church
in Dierks.
Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her grandparents,
Leodis and Lorene Kesterson and Jim and Dora Cogburn.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan Blake Davis and
Sarah Pinkerton and their son Hunter of Dierks; her
parents, Johnny and Pat Kesterson of Dierks; one
brother, Michael Kesterson and Sharon Cummings of
Dierks; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mr. Bobby "Bob" Howard

Mr.
Bobby “Bob” Howard Higgins, age 73, a resident of
Jefferson Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday,
October 10th, 2016. He was born to David “Cap” and Ila
Higgins in Gillham, Arkansas on January 19, 1943. He
worked in road construction and the manufacturing
industry, until elected Pct. 1 Marion County
Commissioner in 2000; retiring in 2012.
Bob was a man of God serving his Lord as deacon of North
Shore Baptist Church, Sunday school teacher, mission
work, and through his clown ministry. He loved sports,
fishing, and hunting. Throughout his life he coached
baseball and softball including his children and
grandchildren’s teams. His grandchildren were his joy.
Bob loved his community, and was a Mims Volunteer
Fireman and First Responder, a board member of the
Holiday Properties, and board member of Compassion of
Marion County for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of
fifty-three years, Nadine “Deanie” Jones Higgins, two
daughters, Belinda Kay Goins and Rita Higgins Benefield,
brother, Russell Higgins, two sisters, Gladys Tabor and
Jean Smith.

Force, a former officer for the Dierks Police Department
and former deputy for the Howard County Sheriffs
Department.

Duane and Lucy Fern Alexander Jackson and one sister,
Gloria Giles.
He is survived by his wife, Susan House Jackson; one son

James Donald “Jimmy” Wray of De Queen, Arkansas
passed from this life on Saturday, October 8, 2016
at the age of 88.
He was born to William Tom and Bertie Kinard Wray on
August 6, 1928.
His family, and all who knew him, appreciated his
devotion, commitment, and sacrifice to family. He
found a lot of fulfillment in life through honest
hard work and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edwin
Eugene, Charles Richard, Sr., Billy Thomas and Joe
Owen; his daughters, Harriett Sue Rogers and
Jennifer Jean Wray Wright.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Gary
Wray, one daughter, Linda Rogers Miller; three sons
and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Mary Sue Rogers,
James and Lisa Wray, and Charlie and Tracey Wray;
one brother, Floyd Crockett Wray; and a great number
of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He will be missed by family and all he touched but
all will be forever grateful for the life lessons he
taught by example.

Erma Melinda Crawford Pressley Flournoy, age 93, a
resident of Fort Worth, and formerly of De Queen, passed
Friday, October 7, 2016 at her home.
Erma Pressley Flournoy,
was born March 2, 1923 to John and Tennie Bates
Crawford, in Opal, Arkansas. She was a retired USDA
Inspector in the Poultry field, as well as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Kern Heights Baptist Church, and
enjoyed her flowers and quilts. She loved animals,
especially her cat, Sassy, and dog, Trixie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred
Pressley, husband Jud Flournoy, brother, Carl Crawford,
sister, Lola Miller, and son Eric Pressley.
Survivors include her sister Beulah Linn, son Rod
Pressley (Rhonda), daughter Gloria Pressley, step
daughters Judy Smith (Wayne) and Debbie Davis (Floyd),
daughter-in-law Carol Pressley, grandchildren Aaron
Pressley, Pam Pressley-Cisneros (Xavier), Nick Pressley

He was born May 24, 1929, in the New Bethel Community
near Lockesburg, Arkansas. He was retired from
Weyerhaeuser and served from 1946- 1953 in the United
States Air Force.
Mr. Tollett was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha
Tollett and his parents, Luke and Lillie Tollett.

He was born on September 29, 1964, in Brinkley,
Arkansas. He had a Master’s degree in Psychology and a
member of the First Baptist Church in De Queen.
Mr. Wax was preceded in death by his grandparents,
Clifford and Clarene Simmons and Delbert Wax; one niece,
Jessica Wax; and his aunt, Linda Wax.
He is survived by his father, Terry Wax of Gillham; his

Samuel
Cecil Tabler Jr., 77, of Ashdown, AR passed away October
4, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Tabler was born August 20, 1939 in Ben Lomond, AR to
Samuel Cecil and Mary Alice Tabler Sr. He was a member
and an ordained deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church in
Ashdown, AR. He was an avid horseman and a legend of his
time. Mr. Tabler was a horse trainer and horseshoer for
over 50 years. He was a 4H project leader for over 24
years. Mr. Tabler married his high school sweetheart ,
Ethyl Marie Ardwin, and they would have been married 56
years this coming Saturday October 8th. He is preceded
in death by his parents; infant sister, Dimmer; three
brothers, Doyle Tabler, Hal Tabler, and Vernon "Buddy "
Tabler.

Funeral Services will be Friday October 7, 2016 at 2:00
pm at Hopewell Baptist Church in Ashdown, AR with Bro.
Ike Thompson and Bro. Travis Arden officiating. Burial
will follow at Blackerby Cemetery in Ashdown, AR under
the direction of Madden Funeral Home.

Mr. David Wayne Jones
Mr.
David Wayne Jones, Sr., age 44, a resident of Horatio,
died Saturday, October 1, 2016 at his home.
He was born to Robert E. Sr., and Jennifer Irene Sharp
Jones in Phoenix, Arizona on February 14, 1972. He
worked in Heating and Cooling, and was a member of the
Church of Nazarene. In his leisure time, he enjoyed
reading, music concerts, and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Erica
and Adam Brandon and Allison Leemarie Jones, all of
Horatio, two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Wayne,
Jr. and Casey Jones, and Nathan Edward Jones both of
Horatio, his father, Robert E. Jones, Sr. of Phoenix,
Arizona, two brothers, Robert E. Jones, Jr., and Michael
Jones all of Arizona, Five grandchildren, Trevor, Kaige,
Zolee, Gracie, and Lennon, as well as a number of nieces
and nephews.

Mrs. Juanita Fae
Nunez
Mrs.
Juanita Fae Nunez, age 86, a resident of De Queen,
Arkansas, died Sunday, October 2, 2016, at her home.
She was born to Ollie Whitfield and Eunice Wright Ely,
in Dallas, Texas, on July 23, 1930. She was a member of
the Iglesia Bautista Ebenezer of De Queen, and was a
retired secretary, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed
her church and yard work.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, Pete Nunez of De Queen,
and two nephews, Jimmie Carter and Robert Carter both of
Dallas, Texas, and a number of other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m.,
Wednesday, October 5, 2016 in the First Baptist Church

Mr. Frank Tugman
Mr. Frank Lash Tugman,
age 81, a resident of King, Arkansas, died Friday,
September 30, 2016, at his home.
He was born July 11, 1935, in Ada, Oklahoma to Fred and
Della Tugman. He was an auto mechanic and he served in
the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean
conflict.
Mr. Tugman was preceded
in death by his wife Sadie Tugman; his parents; and two
sons, Larry Tugman and Victor Tugman.
He is survived by three
daughters, Kathy Billingsley of Gillham, Arkansas, Renee
Gaither also of Gillham, and Shelia Theath of Mena,
Arkansas; one son, Forrest Tugman of Gillham; and a
number of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
No services for Mr.
Tugman are planned at this time.
