The Lockesburg Library has Voter Registration Forms. If you are not a registered voter and interested in participating in this year's election do not delay in getting the process started.

Among the new books lately received at the library is Dean Koontz's 77 Shadow Street. This is what Amazon.com says about Koontz's latest offering, "The Pendleton stands on the summit of Shadow Hill at the highest point of an old heartland city, a Gilded Age palace built in the late 1800s as a tycoon’s dream home. Almost from the beginning, its grandeur has been scarred by episodes of madness, suicide, mass murder, and whispers of things far worse. But since its rechristening in the 1970s as a luxury apartment building, the Pendleton has been at peace. For its fortunate residents—among them a successful songwriter and her young son, a disgraced ex-senator, a widowed attorney, and a driven money manager—the Pendleton’s magnificent quarters are a sanctuary, its dark past all but forgotten. But now inexplicable shadows caper across walls, security cameras relay impossible images, phantom voices mutter in strange tongues, not-quite-human figures lurk in the basement, elevators plunge into unknown depths. With each passing hour, a terrifying certainty grows: Whatever drove the Pendleton’s past occupants to their unspeakable fates is at work again."

Our vision for this column has always been related to making sure the information about things going on in and around Lockesburg was available in a media release.  Many had complained they never heard about things going on until after they had happened.  We believe we’ve been good stewards of the information we’ve been given over the last 4 + years but the time has come when they dynamics of our lives, and the community have changed so dramatically that “Tidbits” has turned from being fun for us, into a chore.  We never intended for this to get difficult for us, but in recent months it has.  We are not out and about in the Community like we once were.  We are not getting the Communities information and feel like the column is repetitive and boring for the most part.  In the good old days (Before “Tidbits”), everyone was on their own to get their information to the media and or out to the public however they could.  The Good Old Days are back.

We would like to thank Lockesburg Librarian Wendy Clay for faithfully sending us Library News and Updates so consistently over the years.  We want to thank “Yours Truly” who has kept us curious for several months and we could keep going for a long time with what she has written.  The Relay For Life Team folks have been great and helpful and are doing a great service for the fight against cancer.  Old Union Missionary Baptist Church , The Lighthouse Church, First Baptist Church , and Lockesburg First United Methodist Church have supplied us with information of things going on in their churches.

Here is our final story from Yours Truly - Child Play

It was a lovely warm day in Texas .  The young mother who with her family, lived in the next house asked if my two boys ages 4 and 3 could play with her oldest boy, 4 years old.

That sounded like a good idea, and I welcomed a chance to have a rest from child care.

About an hour later, Barbara called and asked if I could come to her house.  It seemed something had happened but she didn’t say what.  It only took about 10 minutes to get to her house and out in the yard stood three small boys.  They were a sight.  Each had stood in a long metal pan half full of creosote.

Their hands had used the black liquid to paint an abandoned white refrigerator in a shed.

Did we spank our boys?  No.  But we spent the next hour using several soaps and sometimes with washcloths and sometimes with scrub brushes.

As far as I know, they never cared much for painting after that.
