PROVO VFD BBQ COOKOFF   06/23

 

The Provo Volunteer Fire Department will hold their First BBQ Cookoff on Saturday, June 23rd, 113 Community Road in Lockesburg.  Judging will begin at 4 pm.  After judging, plates will be available to eat in or take out.  You will have your choice of brisket or chicken and two sides for $8 a plate.

Ann Fitz at the Wickes Library announced that Grannis Police Chief Price and his retired K-9 will be at the Library at 109 South 1st Street in Wickes on Thursday, June 26th.  On Friday, June 27th,  an interpreter from Cossatot River State Park will  be there with their snake.  Interested persons are asked to be there by 9:30 am.

Williamson Community Church, 555 Central Road in Horatio will present Cokesbury's Rolling River Rampage Vacation Bible School Thursday through Saturday, June 28-30.  Thursday and Friday time is 6:00-8:30 pm; Saturday 4-7 pm with the closing program for parents and friends beginning at 7 pm.  Refreshments will follow.

The City of De Queen will be closed Wednesday, July 4th in observance of Independence Day.  The trash schedule routes for the week of July 2nd will not change.

 

COMMUNITY PLANNING MEETING TO BE HELD JULY 12     07/12

The University of Arkansas Cossatot and the Arkansas Economic Development Institute (AEDI) would like Sevier County residents to participate in the planning stage of the Arkansas Cultural and Community Economic Strength System (ACCESS) community development initiative at a public forum on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 6:00 pm in the De Queen High School Cafeteria.

Foundation to host Basketball Drawdown at Lockesburg Gym   07/20

 

The University of Arkansas Cossatot Foundation will host a drawdown benefit for the UA Cossatot Colts Basketball Team. The event will take place Friday, July 20, 2018 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium, 128 E. Main, Lockesburg, Arkansas.

 

Only 120 tickets will be sold. Tickets are $100 each and allow the holder two steak dinners and a chance to win $5,000. Ticket purchases and donations are tax deductible.

CHALICE CUPBOARD OPERATING HOURS 

The Chalice Cupboard food ministry located at 315 North 5th Street in De Queen is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 until 3:15 pm for distribution of food to individuals in need. All work is on a volunteer basis.  If you would like to donate your money or time, call 642-3420.  Food items may be dropped off at Chalice Cupboard during the times listed above or at the Sevier County Library during their regular hours.

 

ALZHEIMER'S CAREGIVERS SUPPORT MEETING

 

The Alzheimer's Caregivers support group will be meeting the third Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Sevier County Library. For more information, call 870-784-4344.

 

 

FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT LOCKESBURG SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER

 

The Physicians Medical Billing will be accepting donations of Non-Perishable food items anytime Monday through Friday, from 8am to 4:30 pm to benefit the Lockesburg Senior Citizens Center. The Physicians Medical Billing is located at 108 E. Main Street in Lockesburg.

"THE BRIDGE" RECOVERY PROGRAM

 

Every Monday Night at 7pm, Mt. Pleasant Church has a program called "The Bridge." This is a recovery program designed to help addicts with their Recovery. For more information, please call 865 466 1531.

BEEKEEPERS MONTHLY MEETING

 

Sevier County Arkansas Beekeepers meet the last Monday of each month, 6 pm in the Adams Building at UA Cossatot in De Queen.  Meetings are open discussion about bees for senior beekeepers to those wanting to get into beekeeping. AMERICAN LEGION MONTHLY MEETING

American Legion Post 54 meets the 2nd Monday of each month at 7 pm at the Legion Hut, 513 N. 8th Street in De Queen.  For more information contact Dave Dampier at (870) 582-4564.

FREE COMMUNITY LUNCH

Joy Fellowship Ministries of the Horatio Assembly of God Church hosts a community lunch on the 3rd Saturday of each month.  Lunch is served at the J.L. Walker Fellowship Hall from 11 am - 1 pm.  Everyone is welcome.  There is no charge, just lots of food, joy and fellowship.

FREE EDUCATION SEMINAR

The De Queen branch of the Sevier County Library will host a free education seminar to answer questions about Arkansas Medicaid, ARKids First and your benefits from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. the first Tuesday of the month from December 2016 to June 2017.

FREE ENGLISH CLASSES

UA Cossatot is offering free English classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6 p.m. in the Adult Education Center. Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced classes are available. For more information, call Jennifer Black at 584-1135.

AFTER SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAM

Saint Barbara Catholic Church is participating in an after school child nutrition program by serving snacks every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 6 p.m. For more information, call the church at 642-2256.

GILLHAM TIGERS 4H CLUB

SOUP KITCHEN

The Horatio 1st Assembly of God will hold a soup kitchen on the 3rd Saturday of each month from 11 am - 1 pm in the J.L. Walker Fellowship Hall (across from the football field). The meal is free and everyone is invited.

ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Adult Education Program on the UA Cossatot, Sevier County campus is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 am until 8 pm and from 7:30 am until 3 pm on Friday. The program provides assistance to adults preparing for their GED or adults learning English.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY MONTHLY MEETING

Regular meetings of the Friends of the Library are scheduled to be held at 4 pm on the third Thursday of each month at the library in De Queen. Members will be notified of any changes to the schedule.

BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION

Parent of De Queen Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders are encouraged to collect boxtops. The boxtop collections will help the De Queen Primary purchase additional playground equipment.

FREE CLOTHING FOR NEEDY  

The Seventh Day Adventist community services will be giving away free clothing each Thursday from 9 am till 11 am.  Everyone is welcome. The church is located at 1446 Red Bridge Road. For more information call 870 784-0504.

AMERICAN RED CROSS TO OFFER BASIC AND INSTRUCTOR CLASSES

CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP MEETS...........2ND WEDNESDAY EACH MONTH

A caregiver support group, sponsored in part by the Southwest Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, has monthly meetings in Texarkana .

Nancy Bailey, of the Agency on Aging office in Magnolia, says the group meets at 1:30 PM, the second Wednesday of each month at Brentwood Outreach located at 3418 Richmond Road . Bailey says the support group teaches caregivers how to maximize their own well being and how to deal with the stress of caring for others.

DILWORTH CUMBERLAND CHURCH GOSPEL SINGING  2nd FRIDAY

PLEASANT MANOR NURSING HOME BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS  EVERY WEDNESDAY


Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Ashdown is offering free blood pressure checks every Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. till 11 a.m. with free coffee and donuts.  The nursing home is located at 950 Homestead in Ashdown.
