Obituaries

 

Vivian Long

Vivian Ray Long, long-time resident of Little River Club and member of Horatio Methodist Church, passed away peacefully in her home on May 16, 2025, just a few weeks shy of her 104th birthday. Born on June 10, 1921, to Tom and Ina Ray of Walnut Springs, Vivian was known for her wit and witticisms, her hospitality and amazing memory, and for her strong faith and resilience.

She was preceded in death by many folks, including her three sisters and one brother, husband Alfred and daughter Deborah Long.

She is survived by four daughters; Cheryl Nelson (Jackie), Kathy Renfroe (Clarence), Dianne Brown, Janet Short (Gary), nine grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren, plus several loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Vivian’s good friend and helper these past four years, Shirley Tallant, and her more recent sitter, Penny Morton. A big “Thank You” from our hearts also goes to the Club and Church friends who tended to her and made it possible for her to stay in her home. Enhabit Hospice was outstanding in their care for her, and we are very grateful.

Funeral services for Mrs. Long will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brad Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Redmen Cemetery.

A time of visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., before the service on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan and Kirk Nelson, Megan and Matt Brown, Drew Short and Bart Emerson.

Memorials may be made to the Food Bank at the Horatio Methodist Church, P.O. Box 316, Horatio, AR 71842.

Gary Earl Hargis

Gary Earl Hargis, age 75, a resident of Gillham, Arkansas, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2025, at Dierks Health and Rehab.

He was born on July 27, 1949, in Mena, Arkansas. He was a Baptist and a United States Marine. He was retired from Weyerhaeuser in Dierks. He enjoyed fishing, watching wrestling, and collecting memorabilia. 

Mr. Hargis was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Anna Bell Lichlyter Hargis, and one brother, Edward Sanford.

Mr. Hargis is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cammy Harding and Robert Harding, Jr.; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary Hargis, Jr., and Jessa Hargis; two grandchildren, Caitlin Harding and Sean Harding, and one great-grandchild, Amelia Harding, all of De Queen. 

Graveside memorial services with military honors are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Allen C. Perkins

Mr. Allen C. Perkins, age 52, a resident of De Queen, passed from this life on April 22, 2025 at his home.  

He was born to Allen Wayne and Georgia Ague Perkins on May 18, 1972, in Harrison, Arkansas. He worked for Pilgrim’s Pride in De Queen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry Perkins and a sister Donna Welch.

Allen is survived by a brother-in-law, Paul D. Welch, and a sister, Christine Edwards.

Adam Lindsey Clement

Adam Lindsey Clement, age 36, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, at his home.

He was born on December 1, 1992, in Lewiston, Maine. He was baptized in a Catholic Church in Auburn, Maine. He loved food, watching game shows, and enjoyed going to his Aunt Ruthie’s and Uncle Chris’ annual crawfish boil.

Adam is survived by his parents, Carl and Cherilyn Clement of De Queen; one brother, Carl and Chi Clement of Sugarland, Texas; his mother, Stacie Schott Clement; two nieces and one nephew of Sugarland, Texas; special uncle and aunt Chris and Ruthie Guidry of Opelousas, Louisiana; special friends from Maine, Bruce and Debbie Ste. Onge.

A memorial service for Adam will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in De Queen, with Father Ramses Mendieta officiating.

Maria Nelson

Mrs. Maria Annette Edwards Nelson, age 61, a resident of Horatio, passed from this life at her home, surrounded by her family.  Maria was born to Supt. E. A. Edwards and Betty Jo Grant Edwards on February 7, 1964.  Maria married Jessie Leroy Nelson in De Queen, Arkansas on July 28, 1984.  She worked for Sevier County Development Center as a consultant, providing quality assurance and she provided billing services for other Medicaid Waiver providers.  She also worked as a Chaplain for Marketplace Ministries and was a licensed Missionary in the Arkansas Second Jurisdiction Church of God In Christ.   Maria loved the Lord and was a member of Lewis Temple Church of God In Christ in De Queen, where she worked in various administrative and ministerial capacities.  She enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes, mission work, her grandchildren’s academic and athletic activities, and serving others.  Maria was a liaison for the community and will be sorely missed.
 
She was preceded in death by her father, Supt. E. A. Edwards, a brother, Jerome Edwards, a son-in-law, Corey Kimbrough, a sister-in-law, Linda “Cookie” Polk, and her mother-in-law, Pearlie Nelson.
 
Maria leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved husband for over 40 years, Leroy Nelson of Horatio, Arkansas; three daughters, Jessica and her husband,  Orlandus Green, III of Texarkana, Texas, Danielle Kimbrough of Alexander, Arkansas, and Latricia “Nikki” Nelson of Dallas, Texas; her mother, Betty Edwards of De Queen; five grandchildren, Kadence Kimbrough, Malachi McDonald, Corey “Deuce” Kimbrough, Emory Green, and Olivia Green; one brother and sister-in-law, Lavelle and Veronica Edwards of Little Rock, Arkansas; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Renee and Carl Fricks of Ashdown, Arkansas, Sharon Craig of Murfreesboro, and Charlotte and Eld. Carlton Malvin of Little Rock, Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Hearn of Texarkana, Texas, Mary Thompson of Texarkana, Texas, and Aundria Edwards of De Queen; a brother-in-law, Lucious Jeffries and his wife Donna, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Jerry Allen Evans

Jerry Allen Evans of Foreman, Arkansas, passed from this life Monday, May 12, 2025, at Christus St. Michael in Texarkana, Texas, surrounded by loved ones. He was the only child born to Allen Evans and Lucille Jackson Evans. He married the love of his life on November 5, 1965. To this marriage, one daughter was born. He loved to deer hunt, fish, jet foot boating up and down Little River. He loved spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his spouse of sixty years, Billie Faye Chandler Evans; daughter, Tamara Lynn Cranford, and spouse, Danny Cranford; his grandchildren, Amanda Frachiseur (Kevin), Jason Cranford (Stacia) Cody Butler (Stephanie) Kelsey Gunckel (Lane); nine great-grandchildren, Evin, Gavin, Kaylee, Rustin, Dakota, Jace, Rilynn, Bentin, and Everleigh.

Graveside services for Mr. Evans will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 15, 2025, at Pauley Cemetery in Winthrop with Audie Dawson officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

General viewing for Mr. Evans will be held from noon until 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the funeral home.

Michael Thomas Dunlop

Michael Thomas Dunlop, age 62, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at his home.

He was born on October 14, 1962, in Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a Baptist, worked at Walmart, and enjoyed being outside in his yard and on his tractor. He also liked driving 18-wheelers and loved living in the country and the community of De Queen. He attended Okmulgee Mechanical College and Cossatot College for truck driving school.

Mr. Dunlop is survived by his parents, Spike and Susan Moffitt Dunlop; two sons, Jonathan Perron and Jeffrey Perron; one stepdaughter, Brandee Perron; one brother, Mark Dunlop of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and one sister and brother-in-law, Melissa and Andy Solomon also of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Jaxon Perron and Malaki Perron; four nephews, Mitchell Solomon, Ryan Solomon, Preston Solomon, and James Cooper Dunlop; and one niece, Jenna Dunlop.

A private service was held at Redmen Cemetery.

Nolan Jerald Chenoweth

 
Mr. Nolan Jerald Chenoweth, affectionately known as Jerry to his family and friends, age 86, a resident of Slidell, Louisiana, and former resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life at his home in Slidell, Louisiana.
 
He was born to Charles M. and Leona Idell Turner Chenoweth in De Queen, Arkansas on October 27, 1938.  Jerry married Kay Frances Dodds in Broken Bow, Oklahoma in 1959, and to this marriage, three children were born.   He was retired owner of J & K Truck Line in De Queen and was a member of Ridge Memorial Baptist Church in Slidell, Louisiana.  He enjoyed playing his guitar, hunting, fishing, sharing his faith in Jesus Christ, and his family.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Kay, a son, Gary Chenoweth, a grandchild, Cheyenne Chenoweth, a brother, Wayne Chenoweth, and a sister, Sharon Rightmire.
 
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Terri and Clay Williams of Slidell, Louisiana, and Teresa Blanchett of De Queen; nine grandchildren, Dustin,  Samantha, Julia, Hunter, Hannah, Jacob, Isaiah,  Joshua, and Brittnie; fifteen great-grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Don Tollett of Texarkana, nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Cesar Rodriguez

 
Mr. Cesar Rodriguez, age 53, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, passed from this life on Sunday, May 11, 2025, in Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana, Texas following a lengthy illness.
 
He was born to Zeferino Rodriguez and Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez in Oregan, Ohio on October 18, 1971.  He was a De Queen High School graduate in 1989.  He was a former Tyson Employee, and a member of the Kern Height Baptist Church.  He married Dena Lile in De Queen, Arkansas in 1997.  He enjoyed fishing, grilling, gardening, going to the Casino, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends.  He was well known in town as a sweet person with a good heart.  He will be deeply missed.
 
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Guadalupe Rodriguez, his wife, Dena Rodriguez, and a nephew, Alejandro Avila.
 
He leaves to cherish his memory, his father, Zeferino Rodriguez and his wife, Adela Rodriguez of De Queen, Arkansas; a brother, Joe David Rodriguez and his wife, Nancy of Jonesboro, Arkansas; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sylvia and Rolando Garza of Harlingen, Texas, Hilda and  Jose Pablo Avila of De Queen, Diana and Benjamin Jacobo of De Queen, and Antonia and Jaime Trinidad of De Queen; his step-children, Anthony Higgins, Joey Higgins, Sabrina Miranda; his step-grandchildren, Callie Miranda, Christian Casey, Leo Martinez, and Taleah Martinez, Leti Martinez;  nieces and nephews, Aaron and Samuel Garza, Kassandra, Tatiana and Angel Avila, Monique, Matilda, Benjamin, Nathan Jacobo, Chloe and Caden Rodriguez, Isaak Trinidad; his grand nieces, Hazel Marrufo and Eileen Enriquez.

Dewon Edward Flowers

 

Mr. Dewon Edward Flowers, Sr, age 73, a resident of De Queen, passed from this life peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
 
He was born in Idabel, Oklahoma on July 27, 1951, the son of Edward Lloyd and Tilda Sevinia Goodman Flowers.  He was a retired supervisor with Pilgrims Pride.  He enjoyed family time, his kids and grandkids.  He had nicknames for all the grandkids and great grandkids.  He loved dancing, playing pool, living life to the fullest and being a great Dad and Poppa, and making sure everyone was on time to work.
 
Dewon was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Annette Flowers; two brothers, Wayland Flowers and Robert Flowers; three sisters, Neva Lois Storey, Alice Dean McMahon, and Patricia Elaine Flowers.
 
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 50 years, Dorine Flowers of De Queen; two sons, Dewon Edward, Jr. of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Joseph Dewayne Flowers of Van Buren, Arkansas; Shawnda Renea Flowers Helms of De Queen, Maria Audrey Landereth of Haworth, Oklahoma; two brothers, J. C. Flowers of Holly Creek, Oklahoma and Carl Flowers of Idabel, Oklahoma; one sister, Virgina Flowers Campbell and her husband, Joe of Wright City, Oklahoma;  three special grandchildren Austin Helms, Dakota Helms and Savanna Helms of De Queen; ten additional grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.

Leary Wayne McCandless

Leary Wayne McCandless, age 76, a resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Willis Knighton Health in Shreveport, Louisiana.

 

He was born September 28, 1948, in Ashdown, Arkansas. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of First Baptist Church in Foreman. He enjoyed collecting antiques and working on antique vehicles. He retired from Domtar in Ashdown after 44 years.

Mr. McCandless was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert George and Ona Dewanda Broomfield McCandless.

He is survived by one daughter, LeiAnn (Jeff) Davis of Bossier City, Louisiana; one son, Tommy McCandless of Winthrop, Arkansas; two brothers, Roger McCandless of Foreman, and Herbie McCandless of Texarkana; two grandchildren, Dax Davis and Carson Davis both of Bossier City, Louisiana and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Willis Knighton Health and Chateau of Montclair.

Della Mae “Pud” Milam Daniel

Della Mae “Pud” Milam Daniel, age 91, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, went to her eternal home on Monday, May 5, 2025, at Sevier County Medical Center in De Queen.

She was born May 27, 1933, in Vandervoort, Arkansas. She was a member of Kern Heights Baptist Church in De Queen. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, listening to gospel music, and camping. She was a people person, and once you met her, you didn’t soon forget her. 

Mrs. Daniel was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred Madison and Dortha McMilleon Milam; one granddaughter, Sara Morgan McRae; one sister, Vivian Wall, and one brother, Roy Gene Milam.

She is survived by her husband, Sterling Daniel; four daughters, Patricia Stinnett and husband Tim of Royal, Arkansas; Kathy Millwee and husband Marc of Messer, Oklahoma; Sharon McRae and husband Phil of De Queen; Diane Duncan and husband Kenneth of Heavener, Oklahoma; and one brother Kenneth Milam and wife Donna of Gainesville, Florida; grandchildren, Sterling Harris and wife Kelli, Marcus Millwee, Cole McRae and wife, Mollie, Hannah Anderson and husband, Bryan, Zach Duncan and wife Shannon, Teresa Duncan and Dalton Earley; great grandchildren, Kaidence and Adalynn Harris, Reid McRae, Ethan, Olivia and Mac Anderson, Piper and Hoke Duncan, Lochlan, Ronan and Emelia Earley and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Daniel will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Fischer and Tommy Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at the funeral home.
