Sharon Deborah Efird
Sharon Deborah Worley Efird, age 68, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, June 3rd, 2025.
She was born to Opal Ruth Cushionberry and Robert Claeburn Worley on January 9, 1957. Sharon was a 1975 graduate of Nashville High School. She married the love of her life, Gary Don Efird, on March 1st, 1980. To this union two children were born. Sharon and Gary celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this year.
While Sharon spent the early years of her children’s lives at home being the boss of the house (and of Gary), she eventually found her calling in home healthcare once the kids started school. In her years of work, she didn’t just help patients—she collected lifelong friends and made a lasting impact on many families.
A true social butterfly, Sharon never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, about anything—and she usually did. In fact, she was such a natural talker that Gary often let her do all the chatting unless she asked him to verify details she may have missed and even then, if he did, she still might disagree with him and leave the story the way it started. She had a remarkable memory—especially for the stories you hoped she’d forget, like that time she entered her son Brad in a pageant and he did surprisingly well (he’s still trying to live that one down).
In addition to being a world-class talker, Sharon enjoyed crocheting, treasure-hunting at auctions for her beloved milk glass, and marathon shopping trips with Shelley—stopping only when the money ran out or their feet gave up. She had a knack for finding both a great deal and a good laugh.
Above all, Sharon’s pride and joy were her grandchildren. “Mimi’s house” was a safe haven—full of snacks, stories, and absolutely zero whoopin’s (and woe to the person who tried otherwise). She loved them more than life itself, and they knew it every single day.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Don and Jim Worley, Helen Lavely, Doris Schuyler, and 2 infant siblings, Eugene and Mary Worley.
She is survived by her husband, Gary, one son, Brad Efird and his wife, Callie of De Queen, and one daughter, Shelley Taylor (Michael) of De Queen and Provo. Her grandkids, Maddie, Jacob, Wesdon, and AlliKayte Taylor, and Sloan Efird; her brother, Bob Worley of De Queen, and one sister, Pat Dyea of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sharon also has a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Efird will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Unity Cemetery in Nashville with Bobby Fischer officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 6, 2025, at the funeral home in Dierks.

Wayne’s family moved from town to town with Dierks Forests, Inc. When he was growing up, he ended up in Dierks when he was in the seventh grade, where he graduated in 1954. After graduation, he and his buddy went to California to make their fortunes. When that didn’t happen, he returned home and volunteered for the draft with another buddy on the buddy system. Never saw the buddy again until they both got home.
He returned from military service in 1958 and went to work for Dierks Forests driving a log truck. He had another buddy who didn’t have a car and was dating a girl in Lockesburg, so he fixed Wayne up with a blind date with Sammye Dowdle. First date was October 1958, married June 5, 1959. They always laughed and said how glad they were that Donnie Griffin didn’t have a car.
Wayne continued working in the logwoods until the Briar Plant was built. He went to work there in 1962 and retired in 1994.
Wayne was an active member of Dierks United Methodist Church and was able to attend until about six weeks before his death.
